Sometimes it’s okay not to be strong. It’s okay to admit you need some help. Don’t be stubborn, don’t ever think you’re a burden. You’re not a burden, and people love you. Don’t let this insidious disease make you think you aren’t valued because you are. Encourage your loved ones to talk about how they’re feeling, and end the stigma that because you’re a man you have to be strong and brave and can get through your lows by yourself. You’re not alone.
I don’t really know how to handle this loss and I know things will never be the same, but if this tragedy can be the kick in the ass for one person to reach out and get the help they need then it isn’t all for nothing.
My beautiful friend Tom put it better than I ever could:
“I also beg you to ask that friend how they are one more time, until you believe the answer you're hearing. If you ask them 1000 times, ask 1001 times, be prepared for the answer to be 'no', and love them no matter what.”
